Bill Lyon - Owner/Operator
B I O G R A P H Y
I was born in the small town of Galion Ohio in 1966. When I was about 8
years old, one of my mothers friends gave the family a Christmas present with a
ceramic ornament attached to the ribbon. I fell in love with the ornament
and kept begging my mother to take me to the local ceramic shop. I was
overwhelmed with all of the greenware and the things that you could make.
The only downfall was that the owner said that she did not teach
children. She only had adult classes. So I bought the greenware,
took it home and cleaned it, took it back and had it fired, and then bought
some acrylic stains and finished the pieces at home.
After a few years of painting lead miniatures for role playing games, I moved to Columbus, Ohio and began working at my 9-5 job. One of the ladies that I worked with told me about a few other ceramics shops around town and I went to one and six months later I was certified in Gare. Mayco, Duncan, and Doc Holliday soon followed. I am still working at obtaining my 100 class pin from Duncan (I have just passed 99).
I taught in my home for over 15 years and have taught at a nursing home for
over 10 years. The nursing home was the hardest job to give up, but I
opened a storefront in 2003.
A Ceramic Shop was created out of the need
for more space and the desire to have a ceramic storefront. I and my business partner, Woody Draime,
started with common mindsets; Give the people more then what they want
(correct, quality information) and provide a quality product. To this day I still share that mindset (Woody
passed away on December 24, 2009).
A Ceramic Shop never seems to be the same shop every time that you come in. We are continually adding new items and rotating out the items that are not selling. We have many new and old designs as well as contemporary shapes with any and all available in greenware and bisque.
We are a Distributor for Doc Holliday as well as a Dealer for Mayco, Duncan, and Petro Molds. Shipping of all products is available.
Please call or email the shop for more information:
